The Cutest Heart Waffles

My girls love these waffles (and my husband does, too!). They are so adorable and so easy to make. I had a Belgian waffle maker for the last 15 years, and every time I made waffles, they were so huge that it took a ton of batter to make one waffle (how much calories do you think those had?!), and they were way to big for anyone to easily enjoy. To make it worse, the batter always got stuck to the iron. I thought my waffle days were over until I discovered mini waffle makers!

There were a ton of options on amazon, but I settled with this one:

They are a cinch to make! To make the waffles a wee bit healthier, I use the organic buttermilk pancake mix from Whole Foods, organic whole milk, one large pastured organic egg, and two tablespoons of melted Kerrygold grass fed butter. I usually put in a squeeze of local raw honey. The waffles are about half milk, so I feel good that my four year old that refuses to drink milk is getting some calcium, grass fed butter is a superfood for healthy teeth and brains, pastured organic eggs are loaded with vitamins, and local raw honey helps with allergies. There are also a few good paleo mixes I like if you're gluten free:

Birch Benders Paleo Pancake Mix, Gluten and Low Carb: https://amzn.to/3p5umGq

Horizon Milk Singles (I LOVE these, I have 8 oz of milk when I need it, and they don't require refrigeration): https://amzn.to/3VnHAdX

To make the waffles:

1. Plug in the waffle maker. There are no heat settings, this really is easy!

2. Then whisk together one cup of mix, a bit more than 2/3 cup organic whole milk, two melted tablespoons of grass fed butter, one egg, and a teaspoon or so of raw honey.

3. Check to see that the light is off on the waffle maker, that means it's hot and ready to go. Lift the lid and brush the melted butter from the dish you melted it from into each of the hearts.

4. Spoon enough mix so that each heart is about 2/3 covered. Close the lid.

5. In less than a minute, gently lift the lid to see if the waffles are done to your likeness. Close it up if you like them browned a bit more.

6. Once they're ready, open the lid and use two forks to lift the waffles onto your plate and enjoy!!

Extras will stay good in the fridge and warm nicely for a few days, so make a double batch for a ready to eat breakfast.

Let me know how you enjoy these!
